Bad Stuff For High Prices

Bad Stuff For High Prices

Ollie’s Bargain Outlet is pretty much the greatest store in the history of man. Its slogan is “Good Stuff Cheap” and as I walked around the store in Watertown on Saturday afternoon, I was delighted to see a Wii Zapper for $5, big garden fertilizer bags for $8.99, and the Sarah Palin autobiography for $2 [...]

The “Reyes Run”

The “Reyes Run”

Last night, Jose Reyes led off the sixth inning by hitting a 3-1 pitch up the middle for a single. In the subsequent at bat, Luis Castillo took one pitch before sac bunting Reyes over to second base. Reyes then stole third base in the next at bat, before ultimately scoring on a Chris Carter [...]

Ch-ch-Changes

Ch-ch-Changes

Getting swept by the Marlins following a series loss to the Nationals at home has been frustrating to say the least. Two weeks ago this team was overachieving and in sole possession of first place. Now the team’s starting pitching is in it’s regression swing, Jerry Manuel is making absurd managerial decisions (more of a [...]

Thou Shall Not Steal (Signs)?

Thou Shall Not Steal (Signs)?

Phillies bullpen coach Mick Billmeyer was caught on tape using binoculars in the top of the second inning during Monday’s game against the Rockies. The claim against him is that he was using said binoculars to steal signs from the opposition. My question is, who cares? Every team steal signs. Countless times during games, SNY [...]

Chris Carter Day

Chris Carter Day

With the team on the brink of annihilation, Mets Manager Jerry Manuel delivered one of the most inspirational speeches in the history of the team clubhouse. What follows is a transcript of that speech: Good morning. In less than an hour, a player from Buffalo will join the rest of you here in this clubhouse. [...]

Olive Perez f/x

Olive Perez f/x

Oliver Perez was terrible yesterday. Less a quick, 14 pitch first inning against the free swinging Giants, he was unbelievably atrocious. The last time I saw him pitch so poorly was an early April game at Shea in 2007 against the Phillies. In that evening’s 2 2/3 inning gem, he also walked seven and hit a batter for good measure. I can’t believe that I have seen Oliver Perez accomplish that same feat twice. Nobody should witness that feat twice in a lifetime, let alone by the same pitcher.

Let’s Talk About Second Base, Again

Let’s Talk About Second Base, Again

Due to a bone bruise in his left foot, Mets second baseman Luis Castillo is currently listed as day to day. Castillo, to date, has looked pretty poor in the early season. His wOBA of .315 is largely a product of his high walk totals (BB/K of 4.67). Though he has run into some bad [...]

They Call Him The Streak

They Call Him The Streak

Jason Bay went 0-12 in the three game series against the Reds and was just 3-23 on the six game road trip. What’s more, he went 0-6 with runners in scoring position against the Reds (though he did have one RBI on a sacrifice fly) and 0-7 for the entire trip*. *By my count, Bay [...]

What If

What If

Jose Reyes is the tying run at second as Carlos Beltran steps to the dish. Mets are down one run here in New York in the bottom of the ninth of game six. Two out. Soriano checks Reyes at second, he sets, and delivers – fastball high, ball one. I’m sure Mets fans right now [...]
